The class will inform participants about efforts by Black Americans to achieve racial parity from a time before America was a nation to Black Lives Matter. The participants will be invited to examine the evolution of various movements' objectives and challenged to explore these organizations' goals, whether some have been realized, and whether they are achievable. Finally, participants will be asked to think about how these goals are being met on the Mainl Line in 2020.

Carla Gambescia

Carla Gambescia is the author of the acclaimed book La Dolce Vita University: An Unconventional Guide to Italian Culture from A-to-Z, a rousing tribute to Italy, Italians and a culture that has contributed so much to the world. The book was the winner of the Silver Prize for “Best Travel Book of the Year 2019” awarded by the North American Travel Journalists Association. A native of Philadelphia, Carla is also a marketing executive, former restaurateur and avid traveler; she co-created the Giro del Gelato bike tour which won OUTSIDE Magazine’s Best Trip in Western Europe.
