The Sanskrit meaning of mandala is a container of essence. There are other translations, most of which describe it's circular shape. It is believed that mandala art started as a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the Universe. Over time the mandala art form has been adopted by numerous cultures and has been redefined by each. The meanings of modern mandalas has evolved and become multifaceted works of art. The true meaning of a mandala can only be defined by the artist and the viewer. The geometric flow and circular structure of mandalas seemed to invite the use of the Zentangle Method. Material fee $10 payable to instructor.
