For millennia, sculpture has been used for various purposes including historical and biblical narratives, self-expression, and flights of imagination. See how techniques, subject matter, and themes evolved as a reflection of societal transformations. Among the many works considered are: Mycerinus and His Queen; Myron’s The Disc Thrower; Pisano’s Pisa Baptistery Pulpit, Donatello’s David; Saint-Gaudens' The Adams Memorial; Rodin’s The Burghers of Calais; Brancusi’s Bird in Space; Giacometti’s Walking Man; and Koons’ Balloon Dog.”
