Called the “Second War of Independence” , winning America’s first war as a new country gave the U.S. international respect, opened up the Great Lakes and other regions for expansion, saw the demise of a political party and was the inspiration for the Star Spangled Banner. Sadly it became the turning point for native Americans in their struggle to govern themselves. Course traces the battles, profiles the personalities and gives you insights into the conflicts which changed the course of American history forever.

Richard Sperry

Richard S. Sperry (Rick) is the founder of the American History website, History 500.com. He is a graduate of Yale University were he was in the Navy ROTC and studied Chinese and Japanese history. Rick served in the Navy as a LT (jg) on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger in Vietnam and subsequently spent his working career in the Cable TV business, most recently as VP Marketing for Comcast. He is a member of the Naval Order of the United States and numerous other veterans groups.
