Contrasts in Religious Architecture: Beth Sholom Synagogue and Bryn Athyn Cathedral

These two National Historic Landmarks in neighboring suburbs were designed to both create an inspirational atmosphere for worshipers and take inspiration from their beliefs. Start with a guided tour of medieval Bryn Athyn Cathedral whose symbolic plan is based on the Old Testament, New Testament and teachings of Emmanuel Swedenborg's New Church. After a stop for lunch, we will travel a short distance to Beth Sholom, the only synagogue built by Frank Lloyd Wright, whose design was accomplished in close collaboration with Rabbi Mortimer J. Cohen. Lunch is included.
