Transgender (trans) people are people with hopes, dreams, careers, goals, partners, families, children and live “normal” everyday lives. To be an ally of the trans/non-binary (nb) community people must first examine their own gender stereotypes and sexual identity phobias, as well as be willing to advocate for trans people while celebrating the uniqueness of trans lives and experiences. The tools and information provided in this presentation can be used to educate not only attendees, but their families and social networks about the transgender community’s socio-economic disparities, lived experiences, histories and concerns. This presentation is an effort to continue open dialogue and educational conversations that deconstruct social norms around gender identity, expression and sexual orientation.
