In the US, kidnapping for ransom has never reached epidemic proportions in the manner of some Latin American countries or even some European countries back in the 1970s and 1980s. There are a number of factors behind this, not least of which is the formidable reputation of the FBI who have jurisdiction over all kidnappings, the absence of established terrorist groups within the United States and the fact that there are easier ways for criminals to make money. Having said that, there is a kidnap problem in this country and the growth in kidnapping for human trafficking is a worrying development as is corruption within our law enforcement and social services. Take a look at the history, evolution, mechanics, victims and protagonists. Lunch is included.
