Review the early research and development in rocketry and discusses "touch points" in each stage of the early space flights (1958-1968) including the Mercury Program, which launched the first seven astronauts, and the Gemini Program, often referred to as the "Bridge to the Moon". Explore the social, political and economic issues which impacted the men, women and families involved. Using stories from the presenter's own experience, takea peak into the lives of the people who created the foundation for the Apollo Moon landing in 1969.

Sarah Foster-Chang

Dr. Foster-Chang is currently an assistant editor for Workplace Health and Safety and a trainer for the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses. She has over 30 years of clinical, teaching and consulting experience in a variety of health-related venues. Her father, Robert L. Foster, was the Chief Engineer for the Mercury project and the Operations Mananger for the Gemini Program. His papers and artifacts are housed in the Robert L. Foster collection at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
