Herodotus' Histories, written in the 5th century BCE, is considered to be the earliest surviving work of nonfiction and one of the great masterpieces of western history. It tells of the war between the Persian empire and the Greek city-states; it also takes us on an unforgettable journey of the whole known world at the time with many marvelous stories about the people and customs of different places. Join us as we read and discuss the work of the "Father of History!"

Alice Garrett

Alice Garrett graduated from Princeton University in 1982 with a degree in English Literature. She received her MA in Classical Studies in 1986 from Boston University. Since that time she taught high school Latin at Haverford High School and Lower Merion High School.
