Writing a story outside of one’s culture requires research for a respectful portrayal. Students will pick a culture to research and portray in fiction. Throughout the class, students learn how to decide what resources are necessary, which techniques best fit their story, and how to balance writing and research. By the end of the course, students will either have short stories or the beginning of a novel based around their chosen culture.
Fee: $77.00

Christina Lisk

I have a lifelong passion for storytelling, which has driven me to write professionally, teach workshops, and help others heal through storytelling. My B.A. from Bryn Mawr College is in English literautre. Creative writing has taken me to multiple parts of the country, ranging from The East Los Angeles Performing Arts Academy to Mighty Writers West in Philadelphia. Other experience includes writing about hearing loss for Phonak and wellness for Your Integrated Hypnosis. Professional experience also includes public relations, performance art, and grant writing. Currently, I am conducting independent research on Italian language and culture for my own novel, a disability love story involving an Italian man and American woman. Whether in professional or personal outlets, writing is the center of my world and I am happy to share it with anyone who wants to learn.
