Michael GreenwaldMichael Greenwald is a Managing Director at Tiedemann-Constantia and a Senior Vice President at Tiedemann Advisors. Greenwald leads Tiedemann’s business development in the Middle East. Michael provides geopolitical, and macroeconomic guidance to the firm and clients. Greenwald serves as a trusted advisor and manages senior relationships with family offices in the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. Prior to joining Tiedemann, Greenwald worked in senior roles within the United States Treasury in national security positions working with Africa, Europe, and serving as a financial diplomat in the Middle East spanning the tenures of U.S. Treasury Secretaries Geithner, Lew and Mnuchin. Greenwald served from 2015 to 2017 as the U.S. Treasury attache´ to Qatar and Kuwait, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s senior-most representative to both countries. In this role, he worked with security and regulatory authorities to understand, degrade, and disrupt the funding of terrorist groups, organized crime, and rogue states across the region. His work with the Qatari and Kuwaiti governments resulted in some of the most significant recent disruptions and prosecutions of terrorist financing and support to terrorist organizations. Greenwald also served as the point person for the U.S. government’s relationships with Qatar and Kuwaiti sovereign wealth funds, finance ministries, central banks, and financial institutions. This work was focused on navigating fiscal issues and reform in a low oil price environment, increasing stability and transparency in banking systems, developing debt capital markets, and promoting sovereign wealth investment in the United States. He previously held counterterrorism and intelligence roles in the US government traveling to over 20 countries in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East on behalf of the United States Government. Greenwald was part of the Treasury team that crafted sanctions against Russia, which marked the first time Western debt and equity markets were employed against a sovereign power. He has also served in a variety of roles in the U.S. Intelligence Community and in the Office of General Council at the U.S Treasury working closely with the National Security Council at the White House working on issues related to countering ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, Iran, Ukraine/Russia, Syria, and North Korea. Greenwald is a frequent speaker, writer & CNBC commentator on international security, the Middle East & illicit finance issues. Past speaking engagements include lectures at The Council on Foreign Relations, The Aspen Institute, The Atlantic Council, Harvard University, Yale Law School, Stanford, Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University and Northwestern Business School in Doha. Greenwald has many other business interests including Fellow, Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs & Adjunct Professor, Boston University Pardee School of Global Studies. He is a Senior Member of the Atlantic Council and Board Member of Halo Maritime Defense Systems, Intercontinental Real Estate Corporation and Aspen Institute, Vanguard Society of Fellows. He is Deputy Director of the Trilateral Commission North America Group. His philanthropic work includes serving as Chair, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, Next Generation Board, Senior Advisor, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute & National Board Member & Chairman of the Finance Committee, Susan G Komen Foundation.
