La Shonda Tyree

La Shonda Tyree wants to live in a world where glass ceilings are smashed, dreams do come true, and everyone is using handcrafted natural soap. A Paterson, New Jersey resident, La Shonda has been a certified soap maker for over eighteen years. In 2003, what started as a soap-making hobby bloomed into a natural handmade bath and body brand called Nyah Beauty, a sole proprietorship, offering natural soaps, lotions, and scrubs made in small batches with plant-based ingredients you can pronounce. Her products have been sold in several Christmas Tree Store locations, the Jersey Bound store in the Newark Airport, and the Just Jersey store in Morristown, NJ. In her eighteen years of business, La Shonda has served the handcrafted natural soap and cosmetics industry as a board member of The Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetic Guild. Initially located in Paterson, NJ, for the past four years, Nyah Beauty has called Kearny Point in Kearny, NJ home. The new space offered up a range of different opportunities for business expansion. Hosting several classes a month, La Shonda teaches others how to make natural soaps and skincare with her in-person hands-on classes. As a social, creative experience, she hosts Sip and Soap events where participants can visit her studio for a more relaxed evening, a girls' night out with friends, date night or family fun. La Shonda also offers corporations DIY activities for their employee wellness activities. Clients include Macy's Flower Show, Kean University, and Barclays. Over the past two years, her business has expanded into private label manufacturing servicing bath bombs for a major hotel chain as well as soaps for local indie brands in The Bronx and Brooklyn in New York, Philadelphia, and NJ. In addition to operating her own business, La Shonda, who is a graduate of Rising Tide Capital's Community Business Academy, also nurtures budding entrepreneurs as an instructor and for Rising Tide Capital.
