Nature memoirs invite us to attend to nature with renewed appreciation and a sharper awareness of how human actions endanger our environment. Sample eloquent reflections from three contemporary American works: Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants, by Robin Wall Kimmer; The Home Place: Memoirs of a Colored Man’s Love Affair with Nature, by J. Drew Lanham; and The Comfort of Crows: A Backyard Year, by Margaret Renkl.

Nancy Shaw taught American literature and writing in colleges for ten years before becoming an educational administrator for People’s Light, Widener Partnership Charter School (Chester, PA) and Main Line School Night. She holds a PhD in English & American literature from Cornell University.
