From ancient rituals to childhood games, dolls and puppets  have served for millennia as companions, ritual objects, and powerful devices for  navigating life. More than just inanimate objects, toys and masks  have loomed large in human history ,  helping  us understand our thoughts, feelings, and intentions without real-world consequences.  From Indian shadow puppetry, African ritual masks, Egyptian tomb dolls, and other examples throughout history, explore the role these surrogate people have brought to our lives as both children and adults.
