Willa Cather is known primarily as a writer of the Southwest. Her fiction deals with the strains of modernity as her characters first establish and then confront the passage of their worlds. Through her
short stories, and two novels, A Lost Lady and My Mortal Enemy, we will examine the struggles of her characters as they first build and then are forced to leave their home territory.
