Jazz and Blues are African-American music. They have chronicled injustice to African-Americans throughout American history and the struggle for civil rights and fair treatment; they have presented black perspectives going all the way back to the beginning of the 20th century, perspectives that could not be found elsewhere. This music will be played and discussed in every class.
