Explore your inner artist using poetry writing and art activities. This is for those new to poetry as well as those with a writing practice. Poetry and visual art can enhance each other in exciting ways. Experiment with image making and symbolism to see what is revealed in an enjoyable, nurturing environment. Use collage making and simple writing exercises to see where they lead.

Cathleen Cohen

Cathleen Cohen is Montgomery County’s 2019 Poet Laureate. A painter, poet and teacher, she founded ArtWell’s “We the Poets” program in Philadelphia (www.theartwell.org). She has taught students of all ages from a variety of diverse cultural and faith backgrounds in the USA and in Israel. Her poems have appeared in Apiary, Baltimore Review, Cagibi, Chrysalis Journal, East Coast Ink, 6ix, Philadelphia Stories and other publications. In 2017 her chapbook “Camera Obscura” won a Moonstone Arts Press prize. She received the Interfaith Relations Award from the Montgomery County PA Human Rights Commission and the Public Service Award from National Association of Poetry Therapy. Her paintings are on view at Cerulean Arts gallery in Philadelphia (https://ceruleanarts.com)
