Gregg Swain, an internationally known Mah Jongg art historian, presents a lively and informative talk about the internationally popular game. Gain some knowledge about Chinese art, culture and history via the artwork on the tiles, as well as an understanding of the game’s lasting appeal. Michelle Partlow, Mah Jongg instructor, will introduce the game so you know what to expect if you take a class. Open to those who play the game and those who don't (yet!).

Michelle is a professional educator and teaches Mah Jongg locally and around the country. She is a tournament player, lauded as an outstanding teacher who is enthusiastic and patient.

Gregg Swain

Gregg Swain is an internationally known authority on the history of Mah Jongg and the art seen on its tiles and boxes. She's a graduate of Smith College with a major in Art History, and she earned a doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Baylor. Gregg feels the game of mahjong brings together both these interests. She's often a participant on mahjong-related webinars and zooms, and podcasts, in addition to being interviewed by various media. She's the author of two books published by Tuttle: Mah Jongg The Art of the Game, and American Mah Jongg for Everyone. Her website, www.mahjongtreasures.com ,is the go-to source for information about mahjong art and image interpretation.
