After a bus ride to New Jersey, take a ferry and explore Ellis Island, also known as the ‘Island of Hope and Tears’. It was the largest gateway for millions of immigrants looking for a new beginning and a new life for their families in America. Take another ferry to visit the iconic symbol of freedom in America, the Statue of Liberty, including access to the Pedestal. Did you know Lady Liberty wears an 879 size shoe and has a 35 foot waist? Visit the Liberty Island Museum that chronicles the difficulties and triumphs two countries overcame to build a symbol of freedom. Lunch is on your own. Masks required while on the bus. We will begin our journey in New York by visiting the National 9/11 Memorial. The twin reflecting pools of the Memorial sit within the footprints of the Twin Towers. The names of every person who died in the terrorist attacks of February 26, 1993 and September 11, 2001 are inscribed in bronze around the twin memorial pools. From there we will make our way to the ferry for the Statue of Liberty. To enhance your experience an audio tour is included. Lunch will be on your own at Liberty Island or Ellis Island Food Concessions. On Liberty Island, the audio tour explores the history of the Statue of Liberty and its importance as a symbol of freedom and opportunity around the world. On Ellis Island, the audio tour immerses you in the immigrant experience through narration and firsthand immigrant accounts.
