But Philadelphia existed long before the Liberty Bell was first rung, and its history extends well beyond the American Revolution. Join Kahan on an exploration of the people, places and events that make Philadelphia unique: from Independence Hall to Eastern State Penitentiary, Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross to Ed Rendell and Cherelle Parker.

Paul Kahan

Paul Kahan is an expert on U.S. history. He earned his Ph.D. in U.S. history from Temple University and lives outside of Philadelphia with his family. He has written seven books, including "Philadelphia: A Narrative History," and he has worked at some of the city's best-known museums (including Eastern State Penitentiary). He's also a seasoned and award-winning classroom instructor who has taught at numerous colleges and universities.
