Bison, waterfalls, grizzlies, uncharted land--these are some of the things encountered by the 1803 Lewis and Clark expedition on its trek from the mouth of the Missouri River to the Pacific and back. Delve into the expedition with a combined geographic and historical lens to explore the people, places and context of this bold voyage into parts unknown in the western United States.

Judy Okun

Judy Okun has taught college geography courses for the last 18 years. She currently teaches at West Chester University in Pennsylvania and Rowan University in New Jersey and leads history and geography workshops for adult groups throughout the Philadelphia region and across the U.S. She has extensive Zoom teaching experience. Judy has led lifelong learning classes at the Katz JCC of Cherry Hill, NJ for 15-plus years and absolutely loves working with the amazing adult learners in the community! She holds master’s degrees in history from Villanova University and environmental conservation from New York University. In 2020, Judy received West Chester University Honor Program's Outstanding Faculty Award. Her primary research interests are the Great Ice Age, the American West, the Age of Exploration, world geography, the Spice and Silk Roads, and the Lewis and Clark expedition. She has been serving on the Board of Directors for the Geographical Society of Philadelphia and is the vice president of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation’s Northeast group. A mom of two girls, Cherry Hill transplant from NYC, and avid traveler, Judy loves spending her summers exploring the wonders of the American West.
