From ancient Rome to modern urban imaginings, explore the ways in which global urbanization is shaping contemporary culture. Reaching across geographic and temporal boundaries (East, West, Global South), compare both familiar and unfamiliar locations, tenets and conflicting demands of urban architecture and city planning in the face of social change. Through discussion, creative films and visual material, explore the tensions between theorists, planners, architects, scholars, audiences (tourists) and residents. Consider how changes in the physical (built) environment have impacted the daily existences of people around the world.
