Many story structures are available to the picture book writer, which can make it confusing to select the best match for your story. In this course for advanced beginner through intermediate level picture book writers, discuss the pros and cons, as well as the popularity, of a variety of story structures specifically used for picture books and explore each structure through example picture books. Participants will receive a reading list for further study.

Nancy Kotkin

PICTURE BOOK Nancy Kotkin is an award-winning writer, editor, and writing instructor with an MFA in fiction and screenwriting. She writes for all ages of children and teens as well as literary fiction for adults. Her children’s writing was awarded first place from the Philadelphia Writers’ Conference in 2010 and 2014, and was a finalist in the Writer’s Digest Competition in 2011. One of her picture books won entrance into the exclusive Rutgers One-on-One Conference in 2019. FLASH FICTION Nancy Kotkin is an award-winning writer, editor, and writing instructor with an MFA in fiction and screenwriting. She writes for all ages of children and teens as well as literary fiction for adults. Her flash fiction has been published in numerous digital and print anthologies, appearing alongside such imminent authors as Bonnie Jo Campbell.
