Britain reached the height of its power during the reign of Queen Victoria; the sun indeed did not set on the British Empire. Examine the rise of Britain to its pinnacle of power and study the reasons for its decline. Evaluate how much influence the queen actually had in this process. Among the topics considered are Victoria and her family; industrialization and its consequences; the glory of Victorian culture (although perhaps not its architecture); Melbourne, Gladstone, Disraeli, and Parnell—the shapers of Victorian Britain.
