Madeline discusses how she transformed ancient myth into modern fiction in her two novels, Circe and The Song of Achilles. She will explore the joys and pitfalls of adaptation, the relevance of old stories, and why she was drawn to these stories in particular.

Madeline Miller

Madeline Miller is the author of two internationally bestselling novels which have been translated into over twenty-five languages. Her first novel, The Song of Achilles, was a New York Times Bestseller, and was awarded the 2012 Orange Prize for Fiction (now known as the Women’s Prize for Fiction). It was also shortlisted for the 2012 Stonewall Writer of the Year award. Her second novel, Circe, was an instant #1 New York Times bestseller, and was named one of the best books of the year by more than 20 media outlets. Circe won the Indies Choice Best Adult Fiction of the Year Award and the Indies Choice Best Audiobook of the Year Award, and was shortlisted for the 2019 Women's Prize for Fiction. It is currently being adapted for a series with HBO Max. Miller has a BA and MA in Classics, and has taught Latin, Greek, and Shakespeare to high school students for over fifteen years. She currently lives outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
