Zelda Fitzgerald was the embodiment of the Roaring 20s. It was her husband, Scott Fitzgerald, himself, who christened it the Jazz Age. Zelda and he rode the crest of the 20s from its glamorous excess to its guttering, tragic final phase. Zelda has been portrayed as the unstable foiler of Scott's great talent. This is only half of the story: She was an artist in her own right, a ballet dancer who danced briefly with the Ballets Russes, and a writer, too. She was the quintessential Flapper, beautiful, risk-taking, a proto-feminist. Her life, and Scott's, will be explored. The talk will be illustrated with photographs and film clips.

Catherine Jeanne Robert, PhD, BA, Connecticut College for Women, MA, PhD, University of Pennsylvania, has taught at Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges. She is currently on the Liberal Arts faculty of the University of The Arts. Dr. Robert wrote her dissertation under the direction of Dr. Robert Regan.N/A
