Working with instructors from Valley Forge Toastmasters and using a reliable model for preparing and delivering effective presentations, you will learn how to organize talks clearly, write them memorably and deliver them confidently. Gain skills to significantly reduce your fear of public speaking, use techniques to develop your speaking voice and perform speeches with dynamic movement and gestures. The speech model that you will practice is useful for briefings, elevator talks and interviews.

Derrick G. Gilbert

Derrick G. Gilbert is the Director of Information Technology (IT) for American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS), a faith-based, non-profit and has over 25 combined years of professional experience in IT. Derrick holds an Executive MBA from Saint Joseph’s University, M.S., and B.S. degree in computer science from Monmouth University and Jackson State University, respectively. As a strong believer in transformational leadership, he says, “To be an effective leader, you have to be an effective communicator. To be a great leader, you have to be a great communicator.” Derrick is an 8-year member of Toastmasters and he is excited about his public speaking endeavors and desires to be a successful leader. As a Toastmaster, he has achieved his Competent Communicator (CC), Competent Leader (CL), Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB), Advanced Communicator Bronze designations and is currently pursuing the Dynamic Leadership track in Toastmaster’s Pathways Professional Development Program.

He works with anyone looking to become a better speaker. Don knows what it feels like when trying to find your voice and wondering how to get your message across. He believes that everyone has the ability to be a great speaker and enjoys teaching you how to captivate the room. Since joining Toastmasters in 2017, Don has won multiple speaking competitions, and served numerous Toastmaster officer roles, including club president.
