NEW Japan is home to one of the world’s oldest ceramic and artistic traditions in the world. Explore the origins of ceramics and ink brush painting and see how these crafts evolved over the centuries. Marvel at the lustrous tenmoku tea bowls produced during the Muromachi period and enjoy the beautiful porcelain wares created by the Nabeshima clan among others. Along the way, see how Japanese artists captured the essence of a subject with only a few brush strokes in ink wash paintings when you view examples of this art form introduced by Zen Buddhist monks in the 14th century.
