A major United Nations report found that in 2016, at least 2.5 million migrants were smuggled worldwide, generating $7 billion dollars in revenue for their smugglers. The International Labour Organization estimated that 24.9 million people were trafficked for the purpose of forced labor in 2017 and an additional 3.8 million adults and 1 million children were trafficked for sexual exploitation. Learn the differences between these two horrors and different steps governments have taken to combat them.
