Idealized or naturalistic, based in reality or the imagination, paintings of watery places have been common subjects for centuries. From various seascapes to the Schuylkill River, Coney Island, and French beach scenes, the lure of the local and of exotic locales come spilling out in a variety of 'isms over time. Through discussion, short videos and PowerPoint presentations, consider an array of paintings dealing with these subjects from such artists Renoir, Eakins, Morisot, Pippin, and others.
