When retired CBS 3 Investigative Reporter, Walt Hunter, starts telling stories, many say, “You gotta’ write a book.” He is. But first, he’s sharing them with you. Ducking as bullets fly at two MOVE confrontations; broadcasting “live” as Superstorm Sandy rips away the Boardwalk nearby; mob hits to Papal visits, he was always on the frontlines. You’ve seen the reporting that earned 17 Emmy awards. Now, for the first time, join him behind the scenes, for the most surprising stories of all. Lunch is included for both sessions.
Walt Hunter
CBS 3's Walt Hunter, who retired in May, 2016, after 45 years in journalism was one of the market's most outstanding investigative reporters . His hard-driving and in-depth reporting style won scores of awards and honors including 17 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards and the prestigious Board of Governors Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In 2007, Hunter was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame. He also was honored by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters, the Associated Press, and the Philadelphia Press Association. For 7 years Hunter hosted a popular weekly talk show on radio. His "live" radio broadcast on the funeral for murdered Philadelphia Police Officer John Pawlowski in 2010 received the top award for "Outstanding Radio Story " from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters. Hunter made his move to television in 1980, working for 36 years as a CBS 3 reporter, after 5 years of all-news radio reporting. He also worked as a reporter for the Philadelphia Bulletin. He started his career at the Main Line Times, a weekly, where, at 23 , he was the youngest Managing Editor in the paper's history. A Philadelphia native, Hunter worked his way through high school and college as a deck hand on an oil barge at a Philadelphia refinery. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. For 30 years, Hunter served as a volunteer firefighter in his community and continues to lend his advice and support to fire companies around the region. In retirement, Hunter, through his firm, Walt Hunter Media Consulting, offers Media Crisis Management Training to 1st Responders and municipal agencies. He is also a writer and Adjunct Professor in the English Department at Immaculata University.N/A
