Composting is “nature’s way of recycling” with lots of benefits for you, your garden and the environment. Forget bagging and throwing away yard leaves, grass trimmings and garden or food waste, discover how they can become excellent conditioners for your soil when they are composted. Find out what you need to know to get started from creating usable compost, containers vs. pile options to managing your various raw materials and what to compost, timing and temperature.

Colleen Falicki

Colleen Falicki grew up in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications, Radio/TV, from Shippensburg University. She was volunteer co-leader of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Holistic Mom’s Network for five years and spent 12 years as a Realtor with Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc. Colleen is passionate about providing a sustainable future for our children & in 2017, she founded Back to Earth Compost Crew, LLC. Back to Earth Compost Crew provides residential and commercial compost pick-up services in the Suburban Philadelphia area. Colleen has been a board member for The Giving Angels Foundation since 2016. She resides in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania with her husband, Rick and two children. Colleen enjoys going to the gym, especially spin class, cheering at her kids sporting events and gluten/dairy free baking.

Staff, Mother Compost

Gwenn Nolan is the owner & operator of Mother Compost, a local food scraps/household waste collection service, which provides pick-ups for residents and businesses interested in composting on the Main Line. Gwenn began composting over four years ago at home and started Mother Compost after arriving at the conclusion that everyone should compost but not everyone has the time or space to do so. Familiar with composting both in the backyard and on commercial scale, Gwenn can discuss the differences between home & commercial processing. Gwenn grew up in the area and went to college at Penn State, where she studied Public Relations & Spanish. She currently lives in Wynnewood with her husband and 3 children.
