Therese Casadesus RawsonDaughter of the late French pianists Robert and Gaby Casadesus, Therese Casadesus Rawson received a PhD in French language and literature from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977. She has taught French, Humanities, and French Diction and French vocal repertoire to singers at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia for many years. A soprano herself, she performed the French Art Song repertoire of the 19th and 20th centuries and having founded the Belle Epoque Trio some years ago, as well as a small chamber music group, the Bach Ad Libitum Ensemble, devoted to the works of that composer. Besides teaching and performing, Therese Casadesus Rawson is also active as a lecturer in a variety of topics pertaining to French culture, music, literature, painting, culinary arts. She has been and continues to be involved with French or Franco-American cultural institutions. She was President of the Alliance de Philadelphie for nearly ten years, and is now President of the Fontainebleau Associations, a New York based support group which organizes a summer Music and Fine Arts program in Fontainebleau, France. Therese Casadesus Rawson was awarded the Palmes Académiques in recognition of her teaching activities, and in 2001, she was nominated to the rank of Chevalier des Arts et Lettres in recognition of her efforts on behalf of Franco-American cultural affairs.
