Mansfield Park is different from other Austen novels. There is no lively heroine like Elizabeth Bennet or Emma Woodhouse and Fanny Price is a puzzle. The girl-gets-boy plot is barely there. Nevertheless, this novel has much to love and to think about with its many themes - parental influence, the virtue of patience, slavery, adultery, and the inheritance of the estate. View film clips from the two newest versions. It will be richer for those who have read other Austen novels because of the implicit comparisons, but all are welcome.
