Spinoza (1632-1677) was excommunicated from the Jewish community of Amsterdam because of the radicalism of his ideas. He is credited by some to be the philosopher that brought philosophy into the modern age. He had been labeled an atheist or a pantheist even though he thought he was the one true monotheist. Study excerpts from his Ethics and his Theological-Political Treatise that display his creative genius.
