Women writers in the Midwest are often overlooked or not considered important as part of the region and literary landscape. Look in detail at writers who represent and embody literature in "Middle America," through short stories, novels, and other forms of writing. Some writers we will explore include: Toni Morrison, Willa Cather, Dawn Powell, Marilynne Robinson, and Bonnie Jo Campbell. By using the places of the Midwest, these authors are able to reveal key underlying themes of prejudice and racism, often shielded by the beautiful landscapes.
