Belle da Costa Greene was hired by J.P. Morgan in 1905 to curate a collection of rare manuscripts. In order to secure the position, she was forced to obscure the truth about her racial identity. As a Black woman, she would not have been given the opportunity to demonstrate her intelligence and talents. The story revealed is of an extraordinary woman and the lengths she went to in order to retain her position and protect her family. See page 74 to enroll in our 12/5 bus trip to the Morgan Library.
