According to Rabbi Akiba, the “Song of Songs” is the holiest book of the Hebrew Bible. On the literal level, it is a dramatic series of erotic love poems. On the allegorical, it is the love between God and the people of Israel in Jewish tradition, and Jesus and the Church in Christian tradition. Example selections from the book, both literally and allegorically.
