Bacall was nineteen, Humphrey Bogart was forty-five. They fell in love, married and were in four stellar films together. But Bacall’s commitment to film was matched by her commitment to fight the unfair procedures of HUAC, the House Committee on Un-American Activities. In the 50s era of McCarthy, demagogues, and fascist inquisitions, Bacall shone as a beacon, at great personal risk. Enjoy the talk, film clips, tea and scones.
