As the Civil War drew to a close, disillusionment swept the country, and with it, the end of American innocence. Eager to capture this new mood and make sense of a vastly less sentimental and more complicated nation, a new generation of writers rejected Romanticism in an attempt to depict life as it really was. Explore this rich literary period (1865-1918) through stories from Jack London, Willa Cather, Kate Chopin, Mark Twain and more.
