Amy Cohen

Amy Cohen spent twenty years as a middle and high school social studies teacher. She earned numerous awards including Southeast Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year, a Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching, and the National History Day Philadelphia Educator of the Year. Since 2013, she has been the Director of Education at the film company History Making Productions, where she develops educational materials to accompany documentaries, mostly about the history of Philadelphia. Amy produced Octavius V. Catto: A Legacy for the 21st Century which won a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for Historic/Cultural Program Feature. Amy is a frequent contributor to Hidden City, an on-line magazine about Philadelphia’s history and built environment. Her writing has also been published in the Pennsylvania Gazette, Legacies, Tablet, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. She has taught social studies methods courses at Drexel University, Temple University, and Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges and has written curriculum for organizations including the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, the Library Company of Philadelphia, Temple University Press, and PBS Learning. Amy holds a B.A. in history from Brown University, Masters in Education from the University of Maryland, and an M.A. in history from the University of Pennsylvania
